Yet another account win for North East based branding and advertising agency Foundry34! We have recently been appointed by exciting new Newcastle based start-up company NE8 Castings to handle their branding, web communications and advertising. An acting and modelling agency, the idea behind NE8 is simple- to counter the London-centric dominance of the industry to be seen as the choice for actors, models and performing artists in the region and beyond. We have been involved with the client from an early stage allowing us to build up a strategic plan, developing their brand identity and designing their website with a full Content Management System (take an advance look here ahead of their 2009 launch). We will also be involved in working on their other promotional materials and advertising in the coming months. Watch this space…

This Friday (19th) saw the opening of ‘Launch’ one of the UK’s best design showcases. Coinciding with the DOTT07 events the exhibition manages to get the message of DOTT over without being over-conceptual and dry (unfortunately not every DOTT event has carried this off!). Design can and does tackle some of our biggest problems but can be engaging and fun at the same time. Whether this is making us aware of material usage and recycling in a quirky mad professoresque way with a recycling design factory (Cohda, www.cohda.com), being just plain cool (Deadgood, www.deadgoodltd.co.uk), reinvigorating objects from our past (James Design, www.jamesdesignuk.com) or making the audience the creators (If You Could, www.ifyoucould.co.uk) every trap needs a lure. If we as designers want ordinary people to engage with design we have to be interesting first. We think Launch gets this just right.
….In any case any event that involves hauling huge shipping containers into the front of a disused fire-station and transforming a generally bleak city centre location into a hip design venue gets our vote.
We’ve eventually made the move to our new studio in the Saville Exchange, North Shields. To be honest we had to make the move as, as our clients and friends know, our city centre location was starting to get a little cramped! Anyway, a fresh start in a cool old building in a location that has that great feeling when things are beginning to happen. Now we are settled in we’re looking forward to making some crisp work and being able to welcome our clients in slightly better surroundings.
