Gateshead based NE8Castings have just launched and have their eyes firmly set on the North-East’s talent. An exciting new start-up, the company aims to be a credible alternative to London-based modelling and talent agencies by representing models actors, extras, singers, speakers  and dancers here in the North East.

Founded by Lisa Laidler, who is from a performing arts background, the company wanted to go for an urban Northern feel basing their company name around NE8- the postcode of their Gateshead location. With the official launch of the company happening this month (March) they have already had huge interest with over 11000 page views on their new website since January and a flood of applications from prospective talent.

Manager Lisa Laidler explains, “we know there is a huge amount of talent in Newcastle, Gateshead and the whole of the North East region which in a lot of cases goes to the big name London agencies, what we wanted to do was create a real credible alternative for this talent here in the North East. We worked really hard with our branding and web design company Foundry34 to develop a really distinctive brand and feel for our company and to build and promote a great website. If you were to look at our competitors anyone who knows us would be able to pick our company out straight away; urban black and white photographs with our red logo says straight away- NE8 Castings.

Our website is enjoying huge successes because we invested in getting the look and feel right as well as arranging for Foundry34 to organise our Search Engine Optimisation, resulting in a huge number of visitors and getting top Google results for many of our key search terms.”

So what’s next for NE8? “We are beginning a huge promotional drive to get the very best talent on our books, not only looking at those who have experience but those that are not currently using their talents. We are also building up key relationships with those looking to cast to ensure that when they need models, actors, dancers, singers or speakers we are the agency to contact.

Yet another account win for North East based branding and advertising agency Foundry34! We have recently been appointed by exciting new Newcastle based start-up company NE8 Castings to handle their branding, web communications and advertising. An acting and modelling agency, the idea behind NE8 is simple- to counter the London-centric dominance of the industry to be seen as the choice for actors, models and performing artists in the region and beyond. We have been involved with the client from an early stage allowing us to build up a strategic plan, developing their brand identity and designing their website with a full Content Management System (take an advance look here ahead of their 2009 launch). We will also be involved in working on their other promotional materials and advertising in the coming months. Watch this space…

Brand Cristiano Ronaldo

Friday, June 20th, 2008

Back to our second favourite subject – football and brands. With Portugal’s exit from the Euro 2008 competition everybody’s eyes turn back to the ‘will he won’t he’ saga of Cristiano Ronaldo’s transfer from Manchester United to Real Madrid. With no spies available in either camp we will have to content ourselves with looking at this from a brand perspective. Unlike products and companies which can evolve and change constantly building on their brand, the career of the footballer is short and their (brand) value which is so easily inflated with one good season easily wanes with old age, poor form or injury. From a purely financial perspective Ronaldo himself would be wise to cash in on his brand- take the huge wages- who knows what one dodgy tackle next season could mean? Man Utd. also would be wise to take the money and run- Ferguson has shown consistently superstars are replaceable (Beckham, Van Nistelrooy) the club brand value will be intact no matter what (as long as they keep winning and playing tours in the Far East). Real Madrid also stand to make a substantial sum- they know better than anyone that the transfer fees are small fry to the advertising revenue and potential shirt sales. So what does this mean for the football side of things – will Real win the Champions League if they buy Ronaldo? Probably not. Will they make lots of money? Certainly. What does this mean for Ronaldo’s brand value? Well, if he stays he could just maybe become one of the icons of football where his brand and reputation outlasts his career. If he goes he could be the most highly paid footballer on the planet with the highest transfer fee but maybe, just maybe, in a couple of seasons time be another one of the many over paid bench-warmers with people asking Cristiano who?
